Tebow is a Jet, Sean Payton Suspended for 1 Year

Remind me what Saints player was ever fined or suspended for an illegal hit and while you are at that remind me what player ever missed a game due to a hit by a Saints defender in the past 3 years.

Really think this is much more about not coming clean and misleading and lying to the NFL.

Fully agree. They were told by the league to stop it and didn't do so. No problem with that. Punish away fairly. Making it out to be a one off incident in the league and pretending it has not and is not going on is a joke. If you want to say this is the league making a gross example of one incident to prevent others I stand behind that. If you want to say this is something the Saints did in an isolated incident that in any way changed anything that occurred in the game or league results as a whole or for any player then I'll respectfully group into the pile of hypocrites that can't admit the truth.

Hey Kelly i do think the punishment was harsh . But they were going out playing dirty players from other teams have come out and said before Saints games they would say watch your knee's etc they like to hit low or after the play. ALso a player that did get hurt was Brett Favre .

Favre got hurt. I agree. Saints were flagged with 1 roughing the passer penalty in the game and it actually happened on a legal hit which was a make up call for the dirty one they didn't call a penalty on just prior to. Favre missed a single series and returned though.

I am not saying the players didn't play to hurt people and I think you can honestly agree every defender does that and doesn't need a token thousand bucks incentive to play like that. If we had players who were being suspended and fined for illegal hits or were one of the most penalized teams in the league, had opponents who were getting injured playing us I would grant that this issue was influencing the game on the field in a negative light. And I also agree that it is not a gentlemanly or moral thing to be doing.

I guess the biggest problem I have with things is this. The league has stated they discovered this was going on in 2009 and did investigations on not only the Saints but various other teams where they believed it was being practiced. Saints GM Mickey Loomis was informed it had to stop and he responded he would look after it. He then spoke to Payton who said he would talk to Williams. Williams was told to stop and to talk to the players and make sure they stopped as well. In the end, no one stopped doing it and they essentially laughed off the league and kept doing what they wanted.

The bottom line is, we are not being punished for doing what was wrong. Goodell knew we were doing this 2 years ago, hushed it under the table and didn't punish us and did his "due diligence" by demanding it be stopped. We are being punished for not respecting his authority not for doing something wrong.

So with that said, Loomis is being suspended for not taking further precautions to ensure the practice stopped. Payton is being suspended for not taking further precautions for ensuring it stopped. Same with Joe Vitt because he also had knowledge and took no further actions. And Williams hit the hardest for being the architect of the concept with player suspensions likely coming. My question is what is Goodell's suspension going to be? He also was aware and took no further action to ensure it stopped. He has suspended every other party who passed the buck down to someone else. He passed the buck when presented with a violation of the code of conduct. I am pretty sure from my law enforcement background that having knowledge of a crime being committed and not immediately reporting to allow proper legal channels to address it in a judicious manner is a pretty clear definition of being complicit in the crime punishable the same as commiting the act itself....hence the suspensions to the GM, coach and asst. coach. Drop the ban hammer on yourself too Goodell or just be a hypocrite.

Well for player penalties i can see one going to the player caught on tape if he still plays saying i want my money now. I agree the lg new about this and should have done something when it found out . Since they thought telling Loomis and he said it would be taken care of then it was or should have been done. Then i guess coaches when asked later on denied it ever happened and thats why they got the punishment they got . I hope the team still comes out and fights hard. I do kinda feel that everyone on the team knew about this including the offense. So i kinda think Bree's is full of crap on his tweets etc.

No doubt. You just can't say it though. It happens on every team and every player and every team personnel know about it. Hell it happened when I played football in high school. A local radio show here had a former retired US college positional coach on and he admitted it happened in every football organization he was ever a part of in his 40+ years in the game.

Best statement the Saints can make now.....go win football games despite Roger. Can't change what's done. There's enough continuity in our offense even without Payton and I highly doubt any offensive player becomes part of the punishment. Spags will have his work cut out but if the offense can still put up 30+ consistently there is enough opportunity.

kelly, you are kinda right, i guess in this case, Goodall = Paterno

interesting thought...

and yes, here in Illinois, if you drive a guy to committ a crime, you are just as responsible for said crime...

recently in the town over, 2 guys broke into a house, 1 was shot and killed, the other guy was charged with ****** 1, but im not sure how well itll stick since the homeowner/shooter was illegal and previously deported

so with Tebow gone the Broncos need to grab a QB...

Tebow replaced by Caleb Hanie :lollol:

:secret: its true
