Although we here at SCF strive to keep known bad traders and scam artists off of our site, there is no way that we can catch 100% of the bad traders out there. Always protect yourself by using the following tips.

1.) Check the bad traders post in the transactions forum and compare the address you are sending to to see if it matches any of the known bad traders listed. http://sportscardfreaks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=228
2.) If you are unsure of who you are trading with, use google search for that persons name and address. This sometimes shows posts from other sites that have bad trader listings.
3.) Ask your trading partner for references on SCF or other trading sites and check them out. SCF provides a feedback section. Use it to verify your trading partners references.
4.) If your trading partner is new to the trading world, and if you have legitimate references for yourself, ask them to send first. if they are an honest trader, they should understand and have no problem sending first.
5.) Always ship your cards well protected in a bubble mailer and use delivery confirmation. Insure your package if you are making a high end or expensive deal. The USPS is not perfect and sometimes makes mistakes. The use of delivery confirmation and/or insurance provides you with proof of sending your end of the trade and protects you from a bad trader claiming he did not receive his package.
6.) Be sure that you have a transaction post in the proper forum and that it has a link to the thread you worked the trade on. If you traded through PM or e-mail, be sure to save the conversations and/or emails discussing your trade. Save your delivery confirmation slips and receipts from the post office. The more proof you have, the better chance you have of proving you have been defrauded.
7.) If you have been defrauded, you can take action. There are several things to you can do. You can file a report with the police dept. in the bad traders town. You can file a complaint with the Postal service for Mail Fraud. You can file a report with the Internet Crime Complaint Center. I have included a few links at the bottom of this post for reference on how to file a complaint.

Unfortunately there are people out there who can and will take advantage of other people. If we all work together, we can help each other and eliminate bad traders. Remember, if you just sit back and do nothing, these scam artists will continue to try and take advantage of people. The best defense is a good offense!
