Almost missed today…that’s on me.

April 19th, 1992 -PGA Seniors' Championship Men’s Golf, PGA National GC: Lee Trevino beats Mike Hill by 1 stroke for his 3rd seniors major title.

Also, Trevino has one of the best sports movie cameos…”Grizzly Adams did have a beard.”

Also just saw this one, courtesy of @dmarek94 on Twitter:

Flashback to 1981, on this date at 4:07 AM, the longest @MiLB game was finally halted in the 32nd inning, to be resumed on 6/23 for one final inning when PawSox beat Rochester. Cal Ripken and Wade Boggs went 6-25 in this marathon

April 20, 1960 - Baseball uniforms begin displaying players' names on their backs. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t until 1929 that teams even put numbers on the jersey. Now one weekend a year, we get the crazy nicknames.
That is really interesting that it was as recently as 1960 that players' last names were on their uniform backs!

Baseball News

On this day, in 1914, Babe Ruth made his professional pitching debut with with his hometown Baltimore Orioles. Later in this season Ruth was sold to the Red Sox where he would make his major league debut. The Baltimore Orioles would also be moved out of Baltimore, to become the Richmond Climbers after this 1914 season.

On this day, in 1982, the Atlanta Braves ended their 13-game winning streak which, today, is still the longest winning streak to start a season in major league baseball history.

Football News

On this day, in 2010, the NFL draft was aired, for the first time, in prime time.

David Robinson is one of 6 people to score more than 70 points in a single game, which I had not realized. All are in the Hall of Fame, and only one, Devin Booker, is still playing. Zero of them are named Michael Jordan, interestingly enough!

April 26, 1931- Lou Gehrig hits a HR but is called out for passing a runner, mistake costs him AL home run crown; he & Babe Ruth tie for season.

Imagine that…a mistake in the first month of the season costs you the HR title for the year.

Today in 1990, Pat Riley became the winningest coach in NBA playoff history, with his 100th victory. He passed Red Auerbach of the Celtics who had 99 playoff wins. Riley finished his career with 171 total playoff wins, but was eventually surpassed by Phil Jackson, who ended up with an amazing 229 playoff wins!
