The St. Louis Rams picked up much-needed wide receiver help when they acquired veteran Ronald Curry from the Detroit Lions in exchange for defensive end Orien Harris.
Curry was a free-agent acquisition of the Lions during the offseason when he signed a one-year, $670,000 deal, but he became expendable when the Lions traded for Dennis Northcutt. Northcutt is expected to be the Lions' slot receiver, the role that Curry was trying to win.
The 30-year-old Curry played seven seasons for the Oakland Raiders and started 23 games over the past two years. A former quarterback at North Carolina, Curry's best seasons were in 2007 when he caught 55 passes for 717 yards and 2006 when he caught 62 passes for 727 yards.
This was Harris' second player-for-player swap of the offseason. He came to the Rams from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for halfback Brian Leonard.
Harris, 26, was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks but has been with the Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints and Bengals. He is entering his fifth NFL season.
