The Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday they have released two-time Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook.

Westbrook, 30, has been with the Eagles since 2002, when he was drafted in the third round out of Villanova. He is the franchise's all-time leader in yards (9,785).

Time sure goes by quick for running backs these days. Hope he can beat the injury problems he's had and figure out a way to finish his career strongly.

Just like the Tomlinson release yesterday, you know its coming, but it always a little shocking to read it in print.

they needed too. Smart move. Eagles are smart about every position except Quarterback and Head coach.

I disagree and here is why.

He had a year left on his contract and they flat out release him.

Now anyone who is 26, 27, 28 and has a contract coming up has to be careful because the Eagles don't let players finish out their contracts.

Lets face it, there isn't a lot of security in the NFL, but it seems even less secure if you play for the Eagles.

Doesn't send a very good message to players that we won't hold up our end of the deal.

And you HAVE to take care of the people who take care of you and Brian Westbrook certainly did that here for many years.

This move pissed me off big time. The Eagles are always way under the cap, let the guy at least finish out his end of the bargain. You know he will be fresh next season from not playing much this year.

Sad sad day for me. :(
