The fact of the matter is that people used to collect cards because they enjoyed them. I'm sure that many collectors still do. Once speculators got into it the true collectors who weren't wealthy suffered. Perhaps some day they will have their opportunity again. I know that I really can't afford it now. But I can enjoy dreaming about it.

I think that there is too much ADHD among kids these days to sit and enjoy sports cards. I grew up with sports cards but evolved into other fantasy card games because there was just more too it. I could only organize my sports cards every so often, and quite frankly they got boring. I think sport cards should include a game that you can play with all of the player stats on the cards. Like fantasy sports, but requires the use of cards as well. I will always admire sports and athletes, but I wish my box of cards had something to entice me into busting them out again.
