The Tampa Bay Rays have placed pitcher Scott Kazmir on the disabled list with a right quadriceps strain. The team is expected to call up David Price to take his place in the rotation when it comes up Monday.

The Rays also placed right-handed relief pitcher Troy Percival on the DL because of right shoulder tendinitis.

Kazmir gave up seven runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of Wednesday night's 7-6 loss to Oakland. Over his last five starts, he has given up 31 runs -- 29 earned -- in 23 innings.

"I felt something," he said. "I felt I was putting way too much pressure on it, and I've been fighting it ever since. You feel it when you're landing."

Kazmir said he doesn't anticipate a long layoff. The injury stems from changes in his motion after he was sidelined with a strained left elbow early last season, he said.

"It was me developing bad habits after I came off the DL in 2008 and protecting my elbow," he said.

Percival, 39, is 0-1 this year with a team-high six saves and a 6.35 ERA over 14 appearances.

Infielder Reid Brignac and right-handed relief pitcher Dale Thayer have been recalled from Triple-A Durham and will be active for tonight's game at Florida.

Brignac, 23, made his major league debut last season and played in four games at shortstop, including two starts.

Thayer, 28, leads the Bulls bullpen with six saves and a 0.93 ERA over 16 appearances.
