I've been hearing the Vick lovers compare what he did...

Anyone who makes that argument about hunting is an idiot.

Not only are these dogs bred for the sole purpose of killing them, one way or another, but these dog fighting rings are *********** in illegal gambling, money laundering, tax evasion, and a bunch of others RICO offenses.

If you saw HBO Real Sports last week, you'd also see that the abuse is not limited to just the dogs they raise to fight. In order to train the dogs without hurting the fighting dogs, they steal others' pets and throw them in the pits to be mutilated. Also, if these dogs do happen to get rescued by authorities, the dogs have to be put down because by law they are too dangerous to be put up for adoption.

i was kinda thinking the same thing rutgers, not about the comparisson but the fact that he "owned" 66 dogs and they can't be pets anymore, so they will have to be put down. makes me :( to see any animal put down for any reason (i'm not a hunter and have only seen one animal killed in front of me and it bothers me every time but i'm not a vegiterian (sp))

the thing that kinda torks me is that just because he is who he is, he's gonna get a harsher sentence than the other 3 repeat offenders, since they rolled. don't get me wrong, think he needs to go to jail but if it were Bob your neighbor, he would quietly be put in jail with a hefty fine and people would go on about their business.

I think people recognize that many in our society place a high value on animal life, or more specifically, dogs. I'll share a story from a trip to New Zeland back in January 1992 (Summer there ;) ). One of our stops among our treks was at a working sheep ranch. Working ranches utilize cattle dogs to control the herd, so we are out walking with one of the younger guys tending the flocks and he is working on training the dog. Mind you from our perspective it is a doggie rhode scholar, but it needed work to be better. Conversation came about that dog only had a few more weeks to prove it had the right stuff, girl asked or what, I'm guessing you know the answer..... Sad, different culture (for them, not like that everywhere there). It wasn't about sport or anything though (understand) it was about a mouth to feed and pulling your own weight. It was a 'staff' member not a pet. Now, the guide with us said they generally try and place them in homes now, but from the kids pespective....

Stephon Marbury -

"I think we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals," the Knick point guard told Capital News 9, an Albany TV station. "You know, from what I understand, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors."

Thanks for clearing that up Stephon -
