ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor was shot in his Florida home, according to a statement released Monday by the team.
The brief statement from the Redskins said Taylor was undergoing treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida and that the Miami-Dade Police Department was investigating.
According to police, Miami-Dade patrol officers received a call about 1:45 a.m. Monday that a homeowner had been shot in the leg. The homeowners told police they heard intruders at the rear door of the house, trying to pry it open, the Miami Herald reports. The male homeowner went to investiage and when paramedics responded they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the groin.
The 24-year-old Taylor is in his fourth season with the Redskins. He leads the team with five interceptions but has missed the last two games with a knee injury.
