Cases and Storage Question

So, I have quite a few cards for various PCs that I have picked up over the last few years that frankly are in storage and very hard to enjoy. I'd like to put them in some kind of cases so I can view them and enjoy them. Most of the standard thickness cards are in normal toploaders with sleeves and that works just fine. But I don't have decent cases for the cards of thicker stock so they are really hard to pull out and look at.

It seems to me that the standard is to use magnetic cases of the appropriate thickness. Is this correct? How does one go about determining the proper thickness of the case as it seems like a lot of cards (even GU cards) have quite the variety? Also, is it a good idea to use a sleeve inside a magnetic case? If so, how does one size the sleeve so it fits the cards and the case?

Finally, what kind of storage boxes or containers do you use for your cased cards?

I put all my cards in sleeves and toploaders. Magnetics are too expensive. They can also break apart and damage the cards if you drop them. The thick card sleeve and toploaders are a lot cheaper and protect the cards just as good.

Pretty decent size guidelines.

I own the "Model 100" from here. It is kind of pricey but really good quality. Mine rolled and bounced 2 flights of stairs during a move and took it like a champ! I highly recommend if you need some storage for some high-end cards or ever have to transport any (in a move, to a card show etc)

I also have one of these. Now quite as solid on the protection as the one above, but offers more storage capacity in roughly the same size box. This where I store my graded wolf and Rickey Henderson cards.

I have heard they can pop open. I was thinking of using a seal-able sleeve on the outside of the case.

Great info. I'll check those out!

guess I'm kind of ol' school... prefer base and inserts, so everything goes into penny sleeves, then into 9 pocket pages, and binders.

Wife has the better items, but even then, she uses penny sleeves, 9 pocket pages and binders, unless it's a $100-plus card.. then it's a snap tite.
