Football Card Grading & Values

As many of us know graded cards almost always have more value on the market than do raw cards.

For example Becketts list cards graded MT from 1954-1969 as 500-800%, cards 1970-1979 as 250-400%, cards as 1980-1987 as 200-300%, and cards from 1988-present as 100-200% of booked values.

Thus say you had a 1984 Topps Rookie of John Elway graded MT - Becketts list it as 30/80 raw and based on its grade it is valued at 160/240. After seeing prices on eBay as much as 15x - 20x book I am not sure I or maybe its the collector shops understand the system.

So whats the deal with graded cards? Sure as with anything its worth what someone is willing to pay, but are the above percentages good guidelines to go by?

Further what about BGSs GemMints or Pristine grades? Further yet what about PSA and others how do the graders compare.

Still learning ...
