Bench Warmer
Last night was game 1 of 3 in a row against the same team. A lot of our really good players are up in the AHL so we are the "developmental" part of the affiliation. We get guys in game shape and than when they start producing they get called up to sit on the bench.
Well last night we play Bakersfield. We were informed that since Anahiem doesn't have an ECHL club that has an affiliation, Bakersfield is pretty much it. #3 goalie in net, 14 of the 23 guys on the ice were all under NHL contracts. So it make our guys look like wusses when they scored on us in the first 2 minutes of the game.
Than we get a shorty, all alone with the goalie. Kinda had the deer in the headlights look. Than 4 minutes later they score again. Than just before the end of the 1st we score again. Tied 2-2 on 7 shots on net.
They are the least penalized team in their division. they had like 175 penalty minutes where my Aces were sitting at 364. (yeah we like to fight)
Second period was uneventful accept the ref clearly is from California. Lots of behind the back boarding penalties or charging calls that shoulda happened.
but shoulda coulda woulda
Third period comes. Our scrapper decides he needs to get a fire going. Starts throwing elbows. Than he proceeds to kick the crap out of their biggest guy on the team. Guys go to the box, everythings settled right? Well one of their huge guys comes in an crushes a tiny guy on our team. So our big guy goes after him. And than little guy jumps in to defend himself. Same guy gets beat up by a guy that is like a foot shorter than him, and another guy who is closer to his size.
we take it to OT and lose 3-2 on a fluffy shot. we are used to Olympic ice kicking the other teams butt in the 3rd but we had no gas.
So tonight is the rematch. It was a good game. Bakersfield has skilled guys on their team. I just am kinda hoping that the #3 and #4 goalie for Anahiem stubbs his toe so he can't play and they have to get an EBUG
