Football Sports Card Sites.

I thought I would do a thread about sports card sites. I have noticed on variety sites, that there numbers a padded. Is this a normal practices with sites? I am curious because I see sites says there are bunch of people on them , but zero activity. What does sites benefit from playing with the numbers on their sites? I am just curious. What are your thoughts on this?

It includes the "bots" and non-member browsers is what I figure. I don't know how you could get a counter to juice the #s. Plus, when you click names it shows activity. Also, some sites have a "stealth" browsing mode whereby users can peruse at their own leisure unidentified.
