i figure there will be a strange mix of tributes going on now, i suppose things will end after several years and he will just be remembered for his wins, especially depending on the outcome of the scandal

RIP Joe Pa. You influenced and contributed to a lot more lives than this scandal harmed....one of the greatest college coaches ever.

i cant say i liked the guy, i never really cared for Penn State, but i dont like UNC, but i know Dean Smith is one of the greatest coaches, same with Coach K at Duke...

Paterno is one of if not the greatest college football coach of all time, but that doesn't change, and certainly shouldn't undermine, the harm he allowed to happen to all those kids. The fact that he's now dead doesn't change that, and both his accomplishments as a football coach and his enormous mistake as a person will be forever mentioned in the same breath (as it should be).

Came to know him at the end of his career, and sadly the allegations taint heavily what was obviously a very distinguished career. Winning games does not excuse any harm as Zeeck says. See to many lives ruined by similar issues in my job.
