I agree with defense, but I'd say defensive line (the best guy available) should be the priority come draft time. Whether it's an end or an end or a tackle, I think you gotta get the best guy for getting after a quarterback. They do need depth at corner, but I think they'll be "ok" when Claiborne is healthy. A better pass rush will help those corners out, too, and I'd like to see how this squad can do when they're not required to cover guys for so long.
Speaking of Murray and Dez, this is where I disagree with a lot of my fellow Cowboy fans. Most of the guys, at least around here, think the team should prioritize Murray over Dez. I'm in complete disagreement, for several reasons actually. First of all, nobody on this team is even remotely capable of stepping up and doing what Dez can do. Not even close! I'm not saying Dunbar and Randle can replace Murray either, but they did have some nice moments this season. Behind this line, I think they would do "ok". Second, Murray has had some injury issues in years past and he plays a position that just takes a beating. Running backs don't last as long in the NFL as wide receivers, so putting all your stock into that position isn't too bright (in my opinion). Third, I read an article that showed estimated contract numbers for the Cowboys' free agents. If they're right, Dallas wouldn't be able to afford to keep Dez and Murray, without letting go of McClain (who I thought had a great season, for the most part) and Hitchens. That said, I hope they find a way to keep all 4 of those guys.
So, yeah, #1 for me, right now, would be resigning Dez before he hits the open market. I think you might get a little discount if you can sign him early. If he tests the market, he's going to get paid right there with Calvin Johnson. If they can't sign him, I'd hit him with the franchise tag, which Jerry Jones has already said he's prepared to do if he feels like he needs to. After Dez, I'm on the fence about keeping McClain and Hitchens or keeping Murray. Like I said, I'd like to keep them all but if I had to choose McClain and Hitchens OR Murray, I really have no idea right now what I'd do. I'm leaning more towards Murray, but this defense does need help, and a lot of it!!
