Hey all, its a perfect rainy day with wind and lightning here in Southern Illinois, and I got a fun contest for this Halloween, which has always been a favorite holiday of mine! As a child, I loved dressing up and getting all the trick or treat candy possible, and now as an adult, its fun to help my kids with their costumes and go out and have fun going around the neighborhoods!

I grew up as a Universal Monsters fanatic, and watched so many of the movies over and over! Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney (Senior and Junior!), Claude Rains, and so many others were favorite actors of mine at the time. Boris Karloff (Frankenstein, The Mummy) was long considered to be maybe the standout of that group, largely due to his daughter Sara's film preservation efforts. Sara is a very gracious signer, and I created this custom 8x10 with her signature, and this is our contest prize! Her signature is strikingly similar to her father's, specifically in how they both sign their last name "Karloff."

So, tell me what the first Universal Monster movie I watched was from the list below, and you win the 8x10! Just guess the right movie! One guess per member per day, and I will keep track of who guessed which movie! (I will also occasionally give a hint, if needed!)

The possible movies that I have actually seen:

The Phantom of the Opera 1925 @bfd13 Day 2
Dracula 1931 @DaSoxFan Day 1
Frankenstein 1931 @LarryG Day 1

**I have to give a shout out to two honorable mention movies from the era: United Artists' White Zombie from 1932 starring Bela Lugosi:

and 1935's Mark of the Vampire from MGM starring Lionel Barrymore and Bela Lugosi:

While not part of the Universal horror cycle, they are classics of the era, both featuring Lugosi during his prime years.**

Contest closes Halloween night, at which time I will announce the winner (not at midnight though, I get tired long before then!!)

Thanks everyone for playing, and God bless!

Kevin

I have to vote for the comedy angle:

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein 1948

I'll guess Frankenstein, thinking that would be one to start of with.

Thanks for the fun contest!
