Football Free Agency Day 1 Signings

espn is also reporting the dawkins deal. hill is another great signing for us. our safties were terrible this year so this gives us a solid defense back there. i expect a corner back to be signed and/or drafted. gaffney is a ok player at best but did well in mcdaniels system

According to ESPN.com's Bill Williamson, a source close to the situation denies that a Brian Dawkins press conference has been scheduled for Saturday in Denver.

Media outlets are picking up on the San Francisco Chronicle's original report -- and Dawkins may still sign with the Broncos -- but the deal isn't done yet.

Fox 29 News in Philadelphia is confirming the San Francisco Chronicle report that Brian Dawkins has signed with the Broncos.

Again, we're hesitant to make this official until we see contract terms, but it sounds like a done deal this time. The Eagles now have a need at safety and $40 million burning a hole in their pocket.

Redskins signed G Derrick Dockery to a five-year, $26 million contract. $8.5 million is guaranteed.

Dockery, who was drafted by the Redskins in 2003, bounced back quickly after getting cut by the Bills Thursday. This is great money and a sensible fit for an old Redskins line, but we can't help but notice that the guard market was depressed compared to year's past. Dockery, Brandon Moore, and Chris Kemoeatu signed relatively reasonable deals.

Bills signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to an undisclosed contract.

There was talk of the Bills possibly bringing in a veteran to challenge Trent Edwards, but this signing puts an end to that talk. The noodle-armed Fitzpatrick is 100 percent backup material and is no threat to Edwards' job.
