Montreal Canadiens center Lars Eller was taken from the ice on a stretcher after a big hit from Ottawa Senators defenseman Eric Gryba in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference series Thursday night.

In the old days they would be saying "that is hockey". In today's sport they call it a "cheap shot". Either way you look at it.. a shoulder to the head is wrong.

Gryba is NOT known as a cheap shot player, so a two-to-three game suspension will probably be the punishment.

Hope Eller can get back on his skates and return to the playoffs!

I don't think it should have been a suspension at all. The rule states that it has to be an intentional headshot with the head being the main point of contact. The hit was body to body initial Ellers head just hit his should and he was knocked out knocking his face on the ice resulting in the blood.

IMO the NHL is responding because of the blood. According to the rules there was no penalty on the play (maybe charging could be call) but there should not have been a suspension.
