Hockey Which RC Auto set should i try to complete? SPX or Hot Prospects? Need some opinions!

Bench Warmer
I am hoping to complete a set from this year. I am debating whether to do SPX or Hot Prospects. Personally, i like the Hot Prospects more because they have nice patches and i like the look of the card, but it could be quite expensive with the Malkin & Staal ($150-$200 each). The only reason i thought of SPX is because it's cheaper and there's about 10 less cards in the set.

Another question is, with whatever set i choose, should i start with the expensive ones first (Malkin & Staal) and work my way down or start at the cheap ones?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

you touched on exactly how i would approach it. the expenses.. that would be the determining factor for me in this case.

that wouldnt be a bad thing for me though because im a big fan of spx.

I like the Hot Prospects because some of them have really nice patches. As for a starting point, I would start out with the lower end and work my way up. Especially with the higher end card players having their season completed the price should soften some until next season gets under way. I do believe the Malkin came down quite a bit in the last beckett but that is only a guide, I haven't been tracking any prices on the bay though. The only downfall of the lower end cards is if there is a really nice patch it might go for a bit more. Hope this helps...

agree with that and to add to the starting low angle... if you decide you dont like the way the collection is going.. most likely wouldnt lose as much by trading or selling.

Thanks for all the help so far guys. I greatly appreciate it!

I have decided to go for the Hot Prospects, but i'm going to start with the Malkin because if by the time i get one i decide to stop going for the set, i wouldn't be disappointed because i really want the Malkin anyways and i wouldn't trade it away. If i decide not to complete the set after Malkin i might just try to get some other nice RC's of his (SPX,Young Guns etc) instead of completing the set.
