And you wanted to get Technical, if it wasn't for Kevin Mchale, Kevin Garnett would probably never be a Boston Celtic.

to get more technical, if it wasn't for the grizzlies gm, pau gasol wouldn't be a laker... worst trade ever.

at least minnesota got 1 guy who could play (al jefferson) in the poo-poo platter they took for garnett

Red's Celtics did it by beating other teams on the court.....not by placing a GM on another team to steal away a superstar.

That trade helped account for only 1 ring anyway.

The Grizz got Marc Gasol (who is supposed to eventually be better than Pau), and 1st round picks in 2008 and 2010, as well as Crittenton (who was actually considered to be a player with high potential) and the great Kwame Brown (:D)

What are you saying? That Red actually contributed on the court by scoring points to help win championships? And that Phil didnt?

Do you know how deals/contracts were given out between 8 teams?

Im sorry but Red was yesterdays coach. Phil is today coach and honestly the talent and competition is much tougher today. Phil has earned the title of best coach of all time in my opinion.

If you dont like phil, please dont put Red on a pedestal by putting others down and trying to jusitfy that Phil hasnt done anything. Live with the fact. Im sorry but times change and "BETTER" atheletes and coaches come along.

THe lakers are winners!!

Red wasn't innocent himself. The NBA Changed the Draft rules because of this guy. Because he cheated the system.

However, Auerbach could not prevent the Celtics going into a slump at the end of the 1970s. When scoring champion Havlicek retired in 1978, the Celtics went 61–103 in two seasons.[5] But in 1979, Boston's fortunes changed when Auerbach set his eyes on talented college player Larry Bird. Despite knowing that Bird had a year of college eligibility remaining, he drafted him in the 1978 NBA Draft and waited for a year until the future Hall-of-Fame forward Bird finally arrived. Auerbach immediately sensed that the brilliant, hardworking Bird would be the cornerstone of a new Celtics generation

The Griz GAVEEEE them Gasol. They didnt give the celtics KG. They gave up Al Jefferson who, couldve been a all star this year.

Yes, that's exactly what my post said. Red took the floor and scored 50 points in the Final game.

I didn't say 'Phil hasn't done anything.' In your opinion 'Phil has earned the title of best coach of all time.' In my opinion, I still put Red above him. I believe Red could have won at least two, if not three more titles, but instead turned the reins over to Russell as player/coach.

I also put the Celtics franchise above the Lakers. 17 Championships for the Celtics. 15 for the Lakers. The Celtics 'lows' were also brought down even farther by two tragic deaths. We can only speculate what long careers by Bias and Reggie Lewis would have meant to the Celtics.
