What would you suggest as a gift to a 10 year old Newbie?

Bench Warmer
He's just found out that one of his friends has a few cards. Apparently, the other little boy is quite enthusiastic over his mini collection, and it has sparked some enthusiasm on my nephew's part.

What would be an inexpensive way to start this new hobby, to encourage it, but not to sink a lot of money into it yet. (I don't know if he's going to stick with it or if it's a passing fancy.)

Thanks

Here is where I would start...

- Ask him which sport(s) he is interested in.
- Go to your local retail shop (K-Mart, Wal-Mart, etc) and pick up a few packs or even a blaster box of that sport.

If he shows alot of interest in what you gave him, then your next trip should be to a local hobby shop (card shop) and pick up a couple hobby packs. Depending on the store, most hobby packs on the cheaper sports will run around $3.95, so expect to drop a ten dollar bill when you go.

And I would suggest top loaders and penny sleeves for his cards he wants to keep. Kids don't like going through binders to find their best cards. They like to be able to hold them in hand.

Just an idea... hope it works out for you and him!
