Basketball What if the Trailblazers would have picked DURANT #1 instead of ODEN?

So... I was thinking.. WHAT IF the Portland Trailblazers would have selected Kevin Durant with the first overall pick in the draft INSTEAD of choosing Greg Oden... can you imagine how good they would be right now? WOW!!!!!!!

Now, I am NOT a Portland fan so this isn't an easy thing for me to say but MAN they would be GOOD!!!!! ...ODEN would have gone to "SEATTLE/OKLAHOMA" and the Blazers IMO would be fighting for the #2 spot in the Western Conference... I dont think they could beat the Lakers, but the way San Antonio and Houston are playing I have NO DOUBT they could be a threat.... MAN if you could only turn back the hands of time...

but NOPE...

As a Blazer fan all my comments from this point forward are said with Blazer-colored glasses on. That being said, I think it's too early to jump off the Oden ship. Would they be better right now? Almost definately. The only reason they wouldn't be is if, for some reason, Durant and Roy couldn't play together. In the long run, say in the next 2-4 years, if Oden stays healthy, Oden is the correct pick. Look at the box scores and say what you want about Oden, but he is a game changer. I've watched just about every game he's played and the presence he brings on defense changes what the opposition does. That will only get more pronounced as he matures and can stay out of foul trouble.

The problem I see with Durant on the Blazers is on the defensive end. You would have a starting line-up of:
Blake
Roy
Durant
Aldridge
Pryzbilla

That gives you one defensive player in the middle. Coming off the bench is then:
Channing Frye at center? (another move may have been made to upgrade this position)
Outlaw at PF?
Batum at SF
Rudy at SG
Sergio/Bayless at PG

Now you have a second team with one defensive player and a well-undersized PF.

That starting line-up would scare any team on the offensive end, that's for sure. I hope that Oden can shake these early problems, get his head right and continue to develop. He is a beast out there at times and I look for him to be able to expand that in the very near future.

good info... yea the problem with DURANT on the team is WHO do you take OUT of the starting line-up and put on the bench? NOT an easy choice

still would be nice to see him on that team though

It would be cool to see how different their teams would be, Oden I know is only in his 2nd year technically but man these injuries have got to stop.

Here's how I see it, if Portland would have choosen Durant they would have a team like the Mavs...no true big man. Which with that Portland team wouldn't be a bad thing.

It's tempting for sure, but I think in the long run 9 times out of 10 you have to have a center, since we don't have a guy named Jordan (but that's a whole nother story).

You're not correct yet.....little too early to go that far. It may turn out to be correct, but he is still in the NBA and can still have a long and productive career.

Oden is & will be a bust. He's NEVER been an offensive threat going back to high school,and never will. He's already proven from back in the OSU days that he's injury prone,and he's going to be that was for as long as he's in the NBA
