I think it says end because during that time, the TE and WR was basically one position, simply the guy who lines up at the end of the LOS. Maybe someone else can chime in, but I'm pretty sure that's the reason:salut:
 
The position "end" comes from a time before the forward pass was a legal play - "wide receiver" isn't a position unless it's legal to receive the ball.


Very nice piece, too. Great part of Tide and Packer history.
