Scammer caught

I actually saw this yesterday, but I didn't get a chance to see the apology video before it was taken down. I wonder if anyone downloaded/saved it before it was removed. If there is a case pending on him, that apology video would've been a great piece of evidence to have.

i collect via flipping profits, so there are others...

never seen anyone tape a fake address to something, wonder if he had his regular mailing address under the taped on from location, then they could have peeled it back or something to get his info, because I doubt he was smart enough to change it on the original

Unless I am missing something, this isn't much of a scam. All a buyer needs to do is filed a claim that item was not received and they get their money back. Right?

Jeeeeez! So either people are in the "hobby" to scam or flip and make a profit now.. so few of us actual collectors left :/
Lumping flippers and scammers together....what is the beef with flippers?

The person who only collects is very rare.

I'm not sure how that works. I would think PayPal, like they usually do, would definitely side with the buyer if the item never ended up in the buyer's hands. I'm not sure how this guy was planning on scamming anyone like this, but evidently that was exactly what he was trying to do. Maybe he thought he could keep up lies to the buyers until the time limit on filing a claim ran out?

Just seems like he did not have any idea how it worked. Plus the guy who made the video almost seemed to have too good of an idea what was going on.

if he had bought insurance I could see it as more of a 'fraud' but I don't really think there is a way to go after the guy for mail fraud if he wasn't making a monetary gain from the post office...if someone wanted to go after him it would have to be eBay or PayPal...super shady practice for sure though

I kinda was thinking the same thing. He obviously set the guy up. I mean, he knew it was a scam or else he wouldn't have had that "evidence" printed out at the post office with him or be videoing his post office visit, unless he just records them all. My main question watching this, though, was how did the guy in the video get the USPS to give him the package? How do you call the USPS and explain to them that even though the package isn't addressed to you, it's supposed to be yours?

I assume his address is the one that the bar code refers to and the one that got taped over on the label.

 I'm not sure why I didn't think of that. I guess in the video it doesn't look like the tape had been peeled back so I just assumed it was still in tact.

This guy is actually from Greenville SC and he also has a Charlotte address he used. I think he was caught in a Facebook Razz Room. His almost 20 minute apology video almost sounded like a 2 year old blame game where it wasn't his fault he had done this. Gambling problems aren't just for casinos and lottery anymore.
