Santana Update

The Yankees have offered Hughes, Cabrera and a third minor leaguer.

The Twins are giving the Sox one more chance to match or else he's going to the Yanks:cheers:

Sucks to lose Hughes but Santana is a stud:salut:

PISSSST! So sick of the young prospects being dealt for older players. They did it to Lowell, Soriano and now Melky and Hughes?

Just get Dan Haren instead of giving all of that up for Santana!

Stupid deal. Hughes is too good. Hughes' production over the next 5-6 years will be equally as good as Johan's IMO

Haren wouldn't cost all that much less than Santana. Given the choice between the two, Santana is the pick, every time.

I think this is an outstanding deal for the Yanks. Cabrera is a good third OF, Hughes is going to be great and the minor-leaguer (be it Jackson or Horne) are definitely not deal-breakers.

I think the Yanks make out like bandits. Santana is putting together a HOF resume. This isn't just some "older" player. I can't believe some Yankee fans wouldn't do this deal.

I wouldn't give up quality pitching and batting for Santana. With the Yankees' luck, it'll backfire with Santana getting hurt in 2008 and never pitching again, and Phil Hughes becoming a stud.

Well they're not making out like bandits I think it's a good trade

Here are my reasons why

1. Since Guidry we haven't had easily the best pitcher in the league in my opinion. Santana is an amazing pitcher and he is only 28 and could likely get another 10 years under his belt.

2. Yes he could get hurt, but so could A-Rod, and not many people mentioned that when the Yanks and Alex were negotiating a deal.

3. Besides, I don't know the stats but compare how well 28 year old 2 time CY Young Winners have fared for the rest of their career vs. 21 year old very good prospects. Im guessing the success rate for Santana's rate is much higher.

4. Also, we have plenty of good prospects in the system to step up for Melky, and finding an outfielder of his type in free agency is not entirely difficult. Finding a caliber of Santana's type really is.

5. Finally those comparing Kerry Wood and Mark Prior's injuries with what could happen to Santana....not really a fair comparison at this point as Santana has pitched much longer and much more consistenly then the two Cubs players had at the time of their first injuries.

6. Yes, technically it is a risk. But the Twins are taking a risk as well...what happens if Hughes were to be mediocre (which I highly doubt), and Santana were to win 3 more Cy Youngs with New York and end his career with 250-300 wins.

7. Gone are the days where ace pitchers are readily available. I can see most of them getting wrapped up by their current teams (like Peavy), and the ones who do hit the market could easily take a Matsuzaka like approach to free agency.

Also, you should see the nyyfans forum, there have already been 5 threads in the last 2 days on this, all with over 3,000 posts. People are panicking about the prospect of trading Hughes and a lot of people are starting petitions:lollol:

Well Boston has said they will trade Ellsbury or Lester but not together.

If Minnesota accepts a trade with just Ellsbury and a few minor prospects they are completely foolish.

All I can see Ellsbury ever being is a slightly better younger Damon

Ellsbury's ceiling is basically a super version of Damon. Just because the Yanks paid out the *** for Damon and he got hurt doesn't mean that a career like his would be a letdown. He was an outstanding player for the Sox when he was in Boston. That said, the Yankees offer is a lot better than the Sox offer. I wish the Sox would give up a little more, but I'm a diehard Lester fan and would hate to see him go. A rotation of Beckett, Dice-K, Schilling, Lester and Buchholz is fine...they would only need 1 more pitcher to solidify the starting rotation for years to come.

The best trades for the Twins for Santana:

1. Buchholz or Lester/Ellsbury/Lowrie

The Sox could deal one of these young SPs and Ellsbury and still have a rotation of Beckett/Schilling/Santana/Matsuzaka/Wakefield/Lester or Buchholz and the same offense that won them the Series in 2007.

2. Hughes/Cabrera/Jackson or Horne

I think Cabrera is being overrated in this deal. He's no better than a third outfielder. He's a solid defender with a good arm, but he's a pedestrian .275-.285, 10-12 HR hitter. Hughes is the real prize.

If the Twins want to get the most value out of this deal, they'll deal Santana to the Red Sox (unless the Yankees include Ian Kennedy with Hughes).

Suppossedly the Yanks have set the deadline for the Twins to accept their offer as Tuesday:cheers:

Im still 50/50 on this trade, but if they add Kennedy:doh:

Yankees pulled out, Anaheim jumps in, because they missed the Marlins fire sale.

Hearing that it's either Ellsbury + 3 or Lester + 2. I'm hoping it's still Anaheim or the Dodgers, because they have what the Twins need. Delmon could play CF for MN, even though he's better elsewhere or sign Lofton for a year to play CF and bat lead-off.

The Twins need to ship Santana out west or hope Texas gets into it too, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Kershaw, LaRoache & Billingsley (maybe another, Tony Abreu ?) for Santana

Adenhart, Wood, Kendrick & Willits for Santana & Rincon ?

Opinions.

Also, Seattle says their out as well.

- Dave.

Oh, and SonicsFan, where's Jackson Melian & D'Angelo Jiminez ????? :lollol::roflmao::lollol:

It doesn't always work out for the better too. Remember that when the Yanks are talking dishing out prospects ;)
