Walt Jocketty is working his magic this offseason, and with limited wiggle room, he's pulling off some great moves.
First he got Scott Rolen to restructure his contract and ended up saving the team a ton of money this upcoming season. Then he went out and surprised the entire league by somehow convincing top Cuban prospect Aroldis Chapman to sign with the small market Reds over teams like Boston, Anaheim, Toronto, Florida, and Washington. Now the Reds have signed reliever Nick Masset to a 2 year extension, avoiding arbitration.
These moves might not be making national headlines but they're definitely steps in the right direction to making the Reds contenders for the first time in a LONG time.
