Phillies Acquire Blanton from A's for 3 Prospects

The Phillies have reached an agreement with the Oakland Athletics to acquire right-handed pitcher Joe Blanton. Blanton is 5-12 this season after going 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA last season.

The Athletics get second baseman Adrian Cardenas, pitcher Josh Outman and outfielder Matthew Spencer, all minor leaguers.


IMO, the Phillies gave up too much for the underachieving Blanton. They shouldn't have dealt Cardenas, even if he's blocked by Utley long-term at 2nd.

not really, Outman was a failed experiment as a lefty out of the pen and Cardenas is a promising A ball prospect at 2nd base.... where the Phils already have some guy named Utley

A meh trade. wasn't happy to see the Phils give up solid players who'll probably develop in oakland's system, but, as Grandpa said, adam eaton sucks donkey dong :ban:
