Baseball Pedro to Philly

According to Andy Martino of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pedro Martinez's deal with the Phillies is worth around $1 million.

Pedro can also earn around $1.5 million in performance-based incentives. A press conference is likely to take place on Wednesday. It seems like a smart, low-risk move by a Phillies team starved for starting pitching depth. Pedro allowed just one hit and fanned six during six innings for Team Dominica in this year's World Baseball Classic. He's a different type of pitcher now, with less velocity and less flair, but there's no reason to think he can't be semi-effective.
