Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin was fined $2,500 for slew-footing in a game against the Atlanta Thrashers.

Ovechkin was called for a tripping penalty against Atlanta's Rich Peverley in the final 30 seconds of Thursday night's game.

According to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, Ovechkin was warned by league executive Colin Campbell on Friday that he will receive a harsher penalty if he repeats the infraction.

Slew footing is when you take your skate and kick out the other skater's feet from behind.
