Bench Warmer
Chase Corporate Challenge tonight. It's a 3.5 mile race through downtown. I'm not a runner and have bad knees that hurt when I walk. Guess what my time will be

as in chase bank?

first mile - 11 minutes... (i tried to run/jog this whole mile, but there's too much clutter. I got my shoe stepped on and had to get off to the side to re-tie my laces)

second mile - 14 minutes (25 total) (after the first mile, both my knees were throbbing, so I walked. And evidently slowly.

third mile - 13 minutes (38 total) I walked this mile too. Apparently quicker. knees still hurt badly.

last half mile - 5 (43 minutes total) I tried to run. Hurt badly, but I just wanted to get done. I gritted it through.

I know the time isn't good, but some of you might have underestimated the constant pain that hurts while I walk, let alone run. I expected to finish in closer to 50-55 minutes, so I'll take it.

I went to the track yesterday and here is what i ran:

1st Mile- 6:02

2nd Mile- 6:15

3rd Mile- 6:36

4th Mile- 7:01

5th Mile- 7:22

I was about to faint at the end!!!

Great job!!

Do you wear any type of knee bands or braces when you run/walk?

A tight neoprene sleeve might help.

When I was in highschool my best mile was 5:48. Nobody told me to pace myself and I ran the first 1/4 in .42 seconds. If I could have kept that pace it would have been some type of record lol.

Thanks
Mike

I am assuming that means you ran the first 1/4 in 42 seconds.... uh.. NOT possible ;)

those are the ALL-TIME World Records in the 1/4 mile ;)

52 MAYBE... 42... NO WAY

lol.

It might have been .46 seconds but I swear that was my first lap of the mile.

Back then if I had trained specifically for that I might have been able to break one of those records. It was my 11th grade year of high school. I was a freak in physical condition. I weighed about 150 but could bench over 225. I was barely 6 ft tall but I was dunking in 10th grade.

A terrible ankle injury my senior year really screwed my athletic ability. After it, I couldn't run as fast or jump as high.

I almost wish I had pursued the record if I was that close. I was just talking about my school's record for the quarter. I think that was .48 seconds and I was told that if my time would have been official it would have been a new school record.

So .46 is more like it, not .42.

Thanks
Mike

Yep Adam's got you man. Our Best High schoolers ran low 50's quarters.. I Ran Track in high school and ran around a 5:10ish Mile.. I never broke 60 seconds in the quarter, and that was full sprint. Everything I had. I think I made it under 61 seconds, but never broke 60. lol I remember be so angry.

I bet your quarter was around 76. Which is about right with your time.

If you would have kept that pace its under a 5:10.
