CHICAGO -- Michigan is now an official favorite.

The Wolverines were the Big Ten football preseason pick, announced today at conference media days at the Hyatt Regency.

Coming off an 11-2 season and returning its primary offensive skill players – quarterback Chad Henne, tailback Mike Hart, left tackle Jake Long and wide receiver Mario Manningham – Michigan was selected ahead of runner-up Wisconsin and third-place Ohio State.

The conference only announces the top three teams.

Coming off his own outstanding season when he rushed for 1,562 yards and 14 touchdowns, Hart was named the preseason offensive player of the year while Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis earned the defensive honor, a year after winning the Nagurski Trophy and All-American honors.
