Like they say you can not coach Heart

Why because I disagree with you? Whatever. If the kid did not want to play football then why did he wait until now? He is the son of a HOFer and has lived off of that and had everything handed to him including this spot on the team. As soon as he gets challenged he decided he did not want to play football anymore. Sounds to me like someone either could not handle the presure or just flat could not handle having to actualy earn something for a change.
jealous

:roflmao:

why would I be jealous? I have everything I ever wanted in my life a wonderful wife, a job I love, and kids that I get to spend alot of time with that love me almost as much as I love them. I am prefectly happy with my life and would not change a thing. Unlike some people here I do not have to try and live my life through the accomplishments or failers of others.

One of my friends played college baseball for a year. He was the top pinch hitter, but ended up injuring his rotator cuff. He could have come back, but he decided to move on since he realized playing college baseball was not for him. The time commitment is huge for that type of thing. Sometimes, if you are serious about getting a real degree, sports is not for you.

I don't think college coaches randomly hand out scholarships based on who their daddy is

I guess he decided the rigors of D-1 football wasn't for him. Maybe he wants to have a life outside of football during college. Nothing wrong with that.

I disagree I think Coaches had out scholorships to players based on how the fans will look at it. If you bring in the son of a HOF the bosters will go nuts and it gets the fans buzzing about you which helps you land othe good recruits

That could be the case here as well all I am saying is it is equaly as possible that he ( Elway )just did not want to have to work for something.

I'll say this, when I was playing semi-pro football, that was a committment. I wasn't even getting anything for it and it was alot of work. I would imagine college football is at least 10 times more of a comittment. What is he, 19 years old? Lots of things change when you are that age, like career paths.

I don't fault him for stepping away. Hope he does something that will make him happy.

boosters care about wins, not having a name on the roster.

Small schools try to get 4 star players to sign to drum up interest in the program. Big boy schools don't do that.

If he decided to essentially "retire" from football, there is no big deal. Plenty of guys have retired from football before. If he didn't want to put his body through extreme physical abuse, who can blame him?

yes they do care about wins and that come from the quality of players you can bring to the team. If you bring in the kid of a HOFer then other recruits know they will get more air coverage so it helps with other recruiting. This is not hard to figure out. :salut:

A star player gets TV coverage, not HOF's kid.

How many people here honestly knew that Johnny Untias' kid (one of them) was a QB at University of South Carolina. I bet no one.

As someone who has followed Alabama football recruiting for around 10 years, I can assure you that 98% of players do not give a crap about who the guy's dad is. They care about who is good. That is what gets players (and tv networks) excited. I mean, Derrick Thomas' kid doesn't have a scholarship to Alabama (or any other 1-A school for that matter).

A HOFers kid does help I agree a star player helps more but if your team is not getting alot of Air coverage you have to do what you can to get some and brining in a HOF Qb son who plays the same position would certainly help

I noticed all the TV Networks flocking to ASU to sign a big TV deal once they signed Elway. I also noticed all the top HS players in the country flocking to ASU one they signed Elway.

Good call...

My dad was a career RCMP officer. He all but made me join the RCMP and I went through the training got posted and spent 3 years in a crap hole I didn't want to be in before resigning and going to school for something that interested me. It was not something I ever wanted to do but I was pressured to follow in the footsteps and give it a shot. Whether I was good at it or not and could have had a successful career but if I did not enjoy it and was miserable during it then does it display a lack of heart on my part for not committing to something I never wanted in the first place?

The same situation could be said about Elway Jr. Perhaps he felt pressured to play and was waiting for his out. You should know the media is going to spin things into the context that insinuates the most controversial attitude by those that see the article. There are two sides to every story of course. Hard to pass judgement and declare someone guilty without any further evidence.

I am telling you it does help. Did I say it would happen overnight? NOPE but noe one was even talking about them at all intil he got there.
