Kwame Brown is headed back to the Eastern Conference.

Brown's agent, Mark Bartlestein, told ESPN.com on Monday night that the former No. 1 pick in the 2001 draft has reached a verbal agreement on a new contract with the Detroit Pistons.

The contract is believed to be a two-year deal worth $8 million, with Brown -- who spent his first four seasons as a pro in Washington after being drafted by then-Wizards president Michael Jordan -- holding a player option to return to free agency after this season.

Brown earned nearly $9.1 million last season in the final year of his previous three-year deal, which the 26-year-old received in the summer of 2005 in a sign-and-trade from Washington to the Los Angeles Lakers. Brown's expiring salary was the chief chip that the Lakers used to convince the Memphis Grizzlies to send Pau Gasol to L.A. on Feb. 1 in a trade that earned the Grizzlies widespread criticism.

Brown played in only 15 games with the Grizzlies after the trade, averaging just 3.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in under 14 minutes per game.

WOW ADMIN and I were JUST talking about him today.... he actually would be a DECENT back-up 10-20 minutes a game.... i think eh will fit in better in Detroit than L.A.... I hope he does well....

I am the first to say that Kwame isn't great. However he is good enough to play backup. He isn't an offensive weapon at all, however he can play better then average Defense and is a presense in the middle. He would be a great player on a high powered offensive team. One that didn't allow him to touch the ball on the O side.

yes that is ture is not a offesive weapon at all but it is very hard for me to give heim any credit becuse i am a wizards fan

everyone that was at the pre draft workout the year he came out said he was a no brainer. a star waiting to happen. i recall david aldridge (espn) whom i respect a ton saying he would not only have taken brown if he had the 1st pick but would have never even entertained offers he looked so good. everyone has a drive to work hard to make the best living we can. how many of us would have that drive after we won $10 mil ? that is what seperates the men from the boys in pro sports. he has the talent but no consitency or true work ethic. i.e. see darius miles etc etc

Yea, that is one reason I am a firm supporter of NO Contracts with promised money. Everything should be related to winning, performance, and what they bring to the team. Then they should have some type of injury pay. That is one good thing about the way the NFL does it. Anyone can get dropped at anytime.

i agree 110% . everyone wants a new deal after a "great" season. after a down year i don't see anyone getting in line to give some $$ back. you sign the deal you play that deal out period. no promised money other than signing bonus. work for it all. the new deal devin hester got is a great example of how it should work. if he is puttin up great offensive #s in 2 years he will really get some big $$. if not he is still getting paid pretty good. at the end of the day these guys were all happy with there deals when they signed them or else they wouldn't have signed them
