Jordan rookie real or fake

Hello,

Brand new to the forum. Just found it. Been collecting since the 70s. Look forward to chatting, browsing, and buying here.

Have a jordan rookie I’m looking at. I think it’s legit. What do u think?? I know it’s in a screw down holder but the signs point to it being legit. The color of the arrow by the crown, font, coloring signs, lines, the pupils in the bull on the back. But I’m still leery as the fakes are getting better and better.

What do u think?

And thank you,

Rod

Hey Rod,

Welcome to SCC. I'll have to find it, but there's a great guide to spotting the fakes on this card online. Will post when I do.

Andy

Hey Rod, I reached out to our friends on social for a little help here. Any chance we could get pics outside of the holder?

Consensus was that this one looks legit, but might need some better pics. Definitely seems like one you should submit for grading. You can also check out this Cardboard Connection post that lists some things to look out for.

Where did you get that?? HOT card at the moment!! Corners look sharp to me, coloring is nice too! Cool item!!

My question is number one the ghost is visible on the steps, but maybe not as visible as some of the cards.

Number two the NBA basketball bottom right on the back has lines but not as pronounced as some I see

That’s a great post and from what it says and what I’m seeing would suggest the card is real.

But what’s gets me why has it never been graded. Especially considering the condition

Some people (like me!!) don't want to mess around with grading especially given the long queue during and after covid and all of that to get your stuff back. The cost is pretty prohibitive too. If you're willing to take the risk and put the money into grading it you might have a tremendous return on your investment though!

You got a good point. I for one have only gotten one card graded in my life.

It took months to get back and came back an “8”. Couldn’t believe it. Thought for sure a “9”.

My friends on here can speak much better than I could about grading, I have never had a card graded. It does seem to me that PSA is controlling the market at the moment, in terms of the population of cards graded a 10, 9, etc.....I do think that in order to realize your full potential on a card like that, you do need to look into grading though, unfortunately!

Welcome to the club!

I’d have to say the card looks like the real deal. One of the key give aways to the fakes is the spot light against the black background on the front. The fakes usually have it as a white light . The authentic ones, the light is blue such in your example.

Fake - more white/ powder blue
