Baseball Antique Road Show - 1871 Baseball Cards and Letters - $1M ???

Okay, the appraiser says to insure this collection for $1 Million.

Owner states the cards have been trimmed... not to mention tacked to the board (don't you just love holes in your cards?)

Worth $1 Million? I am assuming that Beckett has hired her to help with BVs.

If roadshow is desperate for sports card and collectible appraisers who actually have credentials and have been published in EPSN the Mag, Beckett, and SI, I humbly raise my hand.

The letters are probably the bulk of the estimate. How many 1871 letters of such a personal and baseball related nature can be out there? Thanking the woman for boarding the players? Seriously, there can't be even half a dozen.

Even trimmed/pinholed, wouldn't the Spalding rookie card be valued around $60k? Then again, that trim job chopped off nearly 40% of the card, so maybe not...

Many, many collectors who know more about the hobby than that "expert" said that the whole collection is more realistically valued at $500k total
