I've been thinking about starting an older classic set (most of my collecting over the past few years has been Red Sox from the 70s and 80s), and after giving it some thought I think I like the looks of the 1950 Bowmans, and the Goudey sets. But I'm not sure whether to just do the 1933, or all or try to make it easy and do just a 1934 or 1938 set. The 1938 Goudey cards might look a bit too cartoonish for my tastes. Anyone got any advice on this?

Peter...the look of the 1933 is the best! A little out of my reach money-wise, as we do mostly NASCAR and I would have to make a decision I think I would regret...

Go for it! 1933... the sound of it just rolls off the tongue!

Good luck no matter which way you go!

Thanks for the reply. I was a bit nervous about the cost on the 1933 set. Besides the 106 which I doubt I'll ever have the money for, isn't the 1933 Goudey set still a lot more expensive than the 1950 Bowman? My head says 1950 Bowman, and my heart says 1933 Goudey. lol

Expense is only a state of the mind.

It's a matter of what you really want. I say the 1933 Goudey... most others would say the 1950 Bowman.
