Took the wife and kids to Colts training camp

I'd never been to a training camp before, so we loaded up the kiddies at 5:00am and headed over to Terre Haute, IN to catch the Colts training camp. Thought we would be about 40 minutes early and maybe snag a few auto's for the girls before practice started, unfortunately I forgot that Indiana is now in the Eastern time zone, so we ended up missing the first 20 or so minutes of the practice.
What blew me away was that there really weren't that many people attending the practice. I also couldn't believe how close you are to the field and the players when they stand on the sidelines. We sat 15 feet from Peyton and the rest of the offense when they would come off the field to let the 2nd and 3rd string play.
Those who have been to other training camps, is this common to be 15-20 feet from the field?

Being an U. of Iowa grad. I really was happy to see and chat with Dallas Clark(former hawkeye). I asked him where Bob Sanders(another Hawkeye alum) was, and he told me he hasn't put the pads on yet during camp, he is still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. Sanders later emerged from the weight room, and the man is
built like a tank for being only 5'8".
I put my 2 year old son in a Hawkeye jersey, hoping that I might get a pic of him with Clark or Sanders. About 5 minutes before Clark came over to chat with us, my boy was pretty much done being in one spot(2 hours in one spot for a 2 yr. old boy is asking a lot) so my wife took him and the *#@?!! camera with her on a walk. So no pics of him with Dallas Clark, but he did sign both girls Colts jersey's.

We did manage to get a few nice shots of the practice:

17 Hunter Smith (P), 65 Ryan Lilja (OG), 44 Dallas Clark (TE) kneeling, some ball boy(how does one get that job!), 18 Peyton Manning (QB I think), 71 Ryan Diem (OT), 4 Adam Vinatieri (K) that guy did nothing but socialize and make small talk with the other kicker trying to make the team, ya like that will happen.

Manning and Clark hustling in for the next play

Classic shot of Manning dropping back. Even looks perfect in practice.

Couple of no-name WR's trying to make the team.

Manning talking with rookie (11)WR Anthony Gonzalez. Gonzalez played with the first team, basically lining up where Stokely would have been. Gonzalez did look confused a lot when Peyton would start his count under center.

Very cool. I enjoyed Colts training camp when I went with my brother since he was visiting Rose Hulman. The AD who is also the baseball coach talked to us and kinda hinted that he was not a big fan of the Colts being there. While touring with him we ran into Tony Dungy which was very cool. Got to shake his hand and talk for a minute. The Colts were getting ready to go to a preseason game in San Diego

This is the first year I"ve missed training camp since 1998. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Dallas Clark is one of the nicest players I have ever met. Always takes time to talk with everybody.

Awesome pictures! Looks like a great time.

At Giants camp you can get right up to the sidelines but the players aren't on the sidelines. They are usually stading behind the action on the field so not really close to us. check out the pics I posted from training camp and you'll see how close I was able to get.

Problem with Giants camp is that there are over 1000 people there per day. The attendance for camp is over 20,000 already.

Sweet pictures!!

How did the Eagles get so many? They don't even have that many fans  Were they doing a free beer day

We are hijacking this thread a little. Sorry newfie.

Do they practice close to downtown Philly? Giants camp is about 3 hours away from NYC.

They practice about an hour and 30 minutes from Philly. But thats what happens when you have the greatest fans in the NFL. :D

I think they still practice at Lehigh University.

And taking your kids to a Colts practice is not a nice thing to do :naughty::naughty::naughty:
