Bench Warmer
Shoeless Joe Jackson, banned from baseball for his alleged role in fixing the 1919 World Series, returns to baseball in Donruss Threads which will include game-used bat cards of the legendary Black Sox figure.

Donruss Threads, scheduled for a mid-October release, is the company’s first full-scale baseball product in three years and combines baseball’s rich past with its bright future through the inclusion of all-time greats with top-tier rookies and prospects. The release will be loaded with autographs and memorabilia cards.

Donruss recently purchased an outstanding circa 1916-1920 game-used Jackson bat and will include pieces in 2008 Threads Baseball. The bat displays significant game use and carries the dark flame-treated finish Jackson preferred on his bats.

“True game-used Joe Jackson items almost never surface on the secondary market – they’re kept in private collections or on display in museums,” says Donruss spokesman Mike Payne. “But sometimes great pieces do find their way into auction, passed down from generation to generation, as this bat was.”

Jackson is joined in Donruss Threads by Pete Rose, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, Cal Ripken Jr., Bob Feller, Reggie Jackson, Nolan Ryan, Duke Snider, Tom Seaver, Don Mattingly, Mike Schmidt, Tony Gwynn, Brooks Robinson, Steve Carlton, Ryne Sandberg, Al Kaline, Whitey Ford, Rod Carew as well as many other legends from the past.

Rick Porcello, the first-round pick of the Detroit Tigers in 2007, headlines a deep checklist of prospects, many of whom have never appeared on a certified autograph card before. Porcello’s first certified autographs and game-used memorabilia cards will only be found in Donruss Threads.

Some of the other top prospects include Ike Davis, the New York Mets’ 2008 first-round pick, Josh Vitters, Xavier Avery, Mat Gamel, Christian Marrero, Max Ramirez, Elvis Andrus, Jesus Montero, Brandon Waring and more than 110 others.

IN OTHER DONRUSS NEWS:

- Elite Extra Edition autograph redemption #130 now has a name: Joba Chamberlain. One of the industry's biggest mysteries finally has been solved now that Chamberlain has been identified as the subject of autograph redemption #130. Chamberlain, who will be pictured in his University of Nebraska jersey on his card, completed his signing for Donruss in early August.

- In related EEE redemption news, Donruss conducted an in-person signing session with Beau Mills - the first-round pick of the Cleveland Indians in 2007 - as well as Dean Smith, both redemptions will be filled as soon as possible. The company is still waiting for the signatures of Chris Davis to begin the fulfillment process, and representatives for the Texas Rangers' rookie told Donruss the signatures would be completed "very soon."

I will be buying a bat. . .gotta be cheaper than the last bat card I bought of him. That set me back $310.

Time for Donruss to come back with a vengance and show Upper Deck and Topps how it's done and maybe they'll get their MLB license back.

Not with Shoeless Joe Jackson in their products.

Donruss is a great company and deserves their license back. MLB licensing need to pull their head out and redo the entire program to better fit today's card market instead of baseing their fees on antiquated sales figures.
