ESPN said:
The Milwaukee Bucks agreed to trade Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto a Bucks source told ESPN.com.

The two teams have agreed to the deal in principle. A trade call to make the deal official is coming later Tuesday.

The move gives the Spurs a dynamic wing scorer to play alongside Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. The Spurs had promised to make their team better this summer and adding Jefferson for role players should give them a huge shot in the arm.

The Bucks incentive to make the trade is largely financial. Bowen, Oberto and Thomas are all in the last year of their contracts. The deal will clear $15 million off the books for the Bucks next season and give Milwaukee more flexibility for next year. It also saves them roughly $3 million this year. That may give the Bucks the wiggle room to sign one of their restricted free agents -- either Charlie Villanueva or Ramon Sessions -- next year.

Obviously Bowen, Oberto and Thomas also give the Bucks some veterans who will fill key holes for the team. The move also opens up some playing time for the Bucks lottery pick last year, Joe Alexander.

will be interesting to see how this one pans out, obviously a $$ deal more than anything for the Bucks, but a good defense for offense trade

Wow,that's a nice bit of new blood for the Spurs offense

Please let this allow Joe Alexander to start already

This will keep the Spurs relevant for another 3 or 4 years. I can't imagine a player of the same caliber that better fits their system than Jefferson. Great move by SA.

Trading garbage to Milwaukee for RJ is just some smooth talking:

"Here's some of our worst, overpaid players on our team. They are all in the last year of their contracts & I heard LBJ was going to look at Milwaukee. All three of them can be yours for Jefferson. Did we mention they are ALL in the last year of their contract.;)"

See I was reading all over ESPN, and people are bad talking the Bucks, but yes this was obviously a money move.

Hopefully they are setting up for a bigger trade.

But the Bucks know they are in their last year.

They even said they are not going to be with Milwaukee next year.

We owed RJ 30 Mil over next 2 years.

Definetly a money move, that move basically had to be made by the bucks if they wanted to re-sign villanueva and sessions. They basically traded jefferson for the 2.

Twist to this deal now it's been finalized...

Milwaukee Bucks acquire: F Bruce Bowen, F/C Kurt Thomas, F Amir Johnson

San Antonio Spurs acquire: F Richard Jefferson

Detroit Pistons acquire: F/C Fabricio Oberto

So you give away the best player on your team so that you have the CHANCE to re-sign your 3rd and 4th best players? Financial burden or not, the Bucks took a huge loss even if they can re-sign Charlie V and Sessions (which I doubt they will).

A+ move by the Spurs.
