Johan Franzen returned to the Detroit Red Wings’ lineup Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins after missing five games with a sprained left knee.

Franzen was called for a hooking penalty after losing the puck on one of his early shifts in the Stanley Cup finals rematch.

The forward has five goals and two assists in eight games this season after providing a surprising scoring lift last season for the NHL champions.

The player known as “Mule” scored 13 goals in the postseason, sharing a franchise record with Henrik Zetterberg.

Franzen scored six game-winning goals in March, breaking a single-month team mark Gordie Howe and Zetterberg shared. Franzen scored 15 goals in the last 16 regular-season games, giving him a career-high 27 goals.
