Dallas Mavericks swingman Josh Howard will be out indefinitely as he continues his rehabilitation from surgery on his left ankle.

Coach Rick Carlisle told reporters after Friday morning's shootaround in Minnesota that Howard would continue to travel and practice with the team.

"He will rehab even more aggressively than he has in the past," Carlisle said.

Howard had minor reconstructive surgery on his left ankle May 22. He made his season debut Saturday night.

In his third game, he was taken out a few minutes into the second half after Carlisle saw him limping noticeably.

Howard missed 30 games last season because of injuries to his ankle and left wrist, which was also operated on May 22. The Mavericks went 33-19 with him and 17-13 without him.
