MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies have signed first-round NBA draft pick Hasheem Thabeet to a multiyear contract.
Thabeet, a 7-3 shotblocker from the University of Connecticut, was the No. 2 pick in the June draft.
The team did not dislcose the terms of the deal in a statement on Sunday.
Thabeet, the first Tanzanian-born player drafted by an NBA team, averaged 13.6 points, nearly 11 rebounds and 4 blocks per game at UConn last season and was named Big East co-player of the year.
Thabeet is also second on the Big East's all-time blocked shots list behind Patrick Ewing.
