Former fan-favorite Rusty Greer confirmed Wednesday that he has interviewed for the Texas Rangers' hitting coach position.

Greer, who has been coaching in the Texas Collegiate League the past few seasons, declined to comment on the specifics of his meeting with the Rangers.

The Rangers are trying to find a replacement for longtime hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo, who declined the club's one-year offer earlier this month and signed a three-year, $2.4 million deal to join the Chicago Cubs in the same capacity.

Greer, a fan favorite during his time in Texas, had a .301 career batting average in nine major league seasons with the Rangers.
