A doctor accused of supplying professional baseball players with illegal performance-enhancing drugs pleaded guilty to two federal criminal charges Monday, according to a newspaper report.
The Daily News reported on its Web site Monday night that California-based Dr. Ramon Scruggs, who was accused in the Mitchell report of having prescribed steroids and human growth hormone to several Major League players, appeared in a U.S. District Court in San Jose, Calif.
He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids and human growth hormone and one count of money laundering. His sentencing is set for Sept. 14.
Scruggs was reported by SI.com in September 2007 to have prescribed Nandrolone and testosterone in the name of Troy Glaus. The following month, ESPN.com reported Scruggs had prescribed steroids in the name of Scott Schoeneweis.
Two of Scruggs' former employees, Allen Danto and Heidi McPherson, were also indicted in the case, according to the Daily News.
Danto pleaded guilty earlier this month to conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids and human growth hormone. McPherson pleaded not guilty and is set for a trial beginning Sept. 21.
