According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, White Sox veteran Jim Thome has been traded to the Dodgers.

The National League does not allow designated hitters, so it's not exactly clear where he's going to play in Los Angeles. The Dodgers must see him simply as late-innings pinch-hit help for the playoffs. The move definitely won't help any fantasy squads. Sep. 1 - 12:11 am et

White Sox acquired RHP Brandon Hynick and cash considerations from the Rockies for RHP Jose Contreras.

Sure, the White Sox just threw in the towel on the 2009 season. But at least they did it right, getting younger in the process. Hynick, 24, had a 3.83 ERA and 92/48 K/BB ratio this season in 26 starts (155 innings) for Triple-A Colorado Springs and could be an effective big league reliever as soon as 2010
