The Giambino headed to Oakland? « Zell’s Pinstripe Blog
Jason Giambi might get a second opportunity to play in Oakland, where it all began for him. Rumors are going around saying that Oakland will begin serious negotiations with Giambi soon. GM Billy Beane spoke with Giambi’s agent, Arn Tellem, this past week. Jason is seeking a three-year deal, but it looks like he will be offered a two-year contract with an option for a third. Giambi will be turning 38 before the season starts, so it is understandable as to why teams don’t want to give him such a big contract.

Giambi stated that he would love to return to the Bronx, but the Yankees haven’t engaged in any talks with him or his agent. I think he would be a good fit for Oakland, and he could slide into the lineup right behind Matt Holliday.

ESPN: From Peter Gammons Blog:

Cashman backed off the Mike Cameron deal because Melky Cabrera has improved his plate discipline in winter ball, and there are voices in the organization who still believe Brett Gardner is going to be a useful major league player. No one will argue his energy and intensity, but watch him take batting practice, and you’ll find out he’s a lot stronger than he looks. Granted, he has to take it into games, but there is something on which to place hope.
