Football My Oregon Ducks PC

Insert Cool Title
Some time ago, I made an effort to start a PC of players from my favorite college...the University of Oregon.

Although Oregon is currently a huge program with a crazy fan following, it wasn't always like that. I was an Oregon fan before all that. I was born in Eugene, Oregon in 1985...in the midst of a long history of losing. Oregon was a 5-6 team in 1985. When I was born, Oregon hadn't been to a bowl game since 1963 and it wasn't looking like they would anytime soon.

Then, something changed. Oregon started to play a little better, led by a stellar young QB from Colorado named Bill Musgrave. In 1989, junior QB Musgrave led Oregon to a 7 win regular season, their most wins since 1964. That season ended with an 8th win in the Independence Bowl, a major leap forward for the program. In 1990, Musgrave led Oregon to another bowl appearance prior to leaving for the NFL. The seeds for success were planted.

This was about the time I became football aware. Bill Musgrave was the first Oregon Duck name I knew. In 1993, my dad took me to my first Oregon game (I was 8) and we watched the Oregon State Beavers beat the Ducks at Autzen Stadium from our seats in the west end-zone. Looking back, it seems odd to think that Autzen was not full that day.

The next season, I watched Oregon have their great Cinderella season, win the Pac-10 conference and play in the Rose Bowl. By that time, I was hooked. From then on, I would watch Oregon football whenever they were on TV or when I could get a ticket. Ultimately, I would attend the University of Oregon and graduate in 2007. I would also become a season ticket holder in 2012.

So, with my strong love for the program and the school...I thought it only natural to start an Oregon PC. The idea behind this set will be to avoid base cards for the most part when it comes to newer players. For older players, I will go after what was made (which is mainly base). However, I'm only looking for cards depicting players in their Oregon uniforms...no NFL gear.

I will start getting these cards posted as I get them scanned. Here are a few to start with:

1991 Score #569 Bill Musgrave

1991 Star Pics #74 Bill Musgrave

1992 Fleer #440 Matt LaBounty

1996 Fleer #170 Alex Molden

1999 Collector's Edge Advantage Rookie Autographs #183 Akili Smith

2002 Press Pass JE Game Used Jersey Names #JP-JH Joey Harrington (17/25)

OK, here are some others I got scanned. I know they aren't the cool modern hits you guys love...(some of those are coming, I promise). But, this is an interesting set on it's own. This is a 1990 team issue Oregon set. This was the first team issue set the Ducks released. The cards came as a 12-card oversized set in a perforated sheet. The set is unnumbered but listing them by alphabetical last name like they are listed on the Beckett site.

Being the first set, the 1990 is hard to find these days. I have only seen a couple over the years. Here is the whole set:

1990 Oregon #1 Scott Boatright

1990 Oregon #2 Peter Brantley
