Got this via chain email etc etc blah blah......Supposedly some lady wrote this in to a newspaper editorials section.


Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and once here, to stay indefinately.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Lets say I break into your house. Lets say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave.

I say "Ive made all the beds and washed all the laundry and swept the floors. Ive done all the things you dont like to do. Im hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protestors:

You are required to let me stay in your house.
You are required to add me to your family's insurance plan.
You are required to educate my kids.
You are required to provide other benefits to me and to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my "right" to be there.

Its only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and Im just trying to better myself. Im a hard-working and honest person, except for, well, you know, I did break into your house afterall and boy what a deal it is for me.

I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do without being accused of cold, uncaring, prejudiced, and bigoted behavoir.

Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you learn MY LANGUAGE so that YOU can communicate with ME. And dont forget to make sure your forms are in MY LANGUAGE so that I can understand them.

Rough subject. Heres my take:

I have no issues with immigrants (legal or illegal) working here. They do the crap others don't want to do. They aren't coming after my job.

Here are a few things that I do believe:

They should have to pay taxes.
They should learn the English language.

If I went to Mexico to work, I expect to have to learn the language to be able to communicate. Why should they be any different?

When I worked at Denny's, I never saw a SINGLE white/black/asian applicant for dishwasher or cook. Plenty of white/black/asian applicants for server.

Hence all the dishwashers and cook were hispanic, and not a single hispanic person was a server.

Maybe I've been out of the "looking for a job" scene too long...

The "wall" is the worst idea in Modern American History, regardless of your take on immigration.

As for immigration, they take jobs that no one will work for at that pay. We dont pay increases in dishwashing, fruit picking etc... Because that will lead to major inflation.

In our area of Washington State we are a major farming region with a high latino population. With the crackdown already the farmers are having trouble finding a workforce. Not surprisingly there is not a line of workers now lining up to fill these jobs.

We have for some reason scapegoated the immigrants post Civil War repeatedly.

I believe closing the border is a poor use of tax money and would not work.

If you want to stop immigration go after employers, renters etc... (Expect inflation soon after)

No easy answers in this issue that is for sure, but there are bigger fish to fry IMHO.

I dont see why people have a problem with trying to make something that is illegal and is being done every day, to making a way to legitimize whats going on and making it legal.

Is it so wrong to be upset that there are millions of immigrants in this country earning money while paying no taxes while that money gets shipped out of the US and the minimum of whats earned is spent here.

In WA state we have a sales tax so as long as they are here they are paying some taxes.

I think health care and education is where it gets tougher. Do you turn away the children? I teach illegal immigrants in my classrooms every day, you'd never know except I do something crazy and actually talk to my students.

If we pay fruit pickers over the table prices will skyrocket in that market no way to get around it.

Even without sales tax as long as they are buying and purchasing goods in our marketplace we are seeing some benefits.

yeah that part is tough especially with the children. It's not their fault. true about the sales tax though.

sales tax does not help, they make money and the governmaent sees about 7 percent(idk what your sales tax is) when they buy something from a store that actually charges(which happens less than most think) instead of 20-30 percent off of the gross of what they make(just like the rest of us do)

getting sales tax from immigrants isnt enough, if they want to be here they need to speak english and pay income taxes like the rest of us, plain and simple

neither does nevada where i live but i still pay federal taxes, and i assume evryone else here does too
