For those that don't think pets are like kids....

Was on my morning excursion with the dogs (well, Miles & Kennedy, Finbar is a lazy tnarg, yes double negative I know ;) ) and we are about third of the way through our walk, they had just gotten off leash as we went into the little valley along the creek. After minute or so of walking on the creek they both start crying and running in little spurts and circling, dumbclucks got into some type of hornets nest. Kennedy took off running (away from our car sadly) while I was able to get Miles to stop so i could help get them off of him. Took me half a mile to catch up to her. Now in the past Kennedy has had bad reactions, while Miles is the dog that is always getting the funny syphilis to borrow a buffyism, here we are nearly mile and half plus from my car. My worst fear was both would start swelling up (and believe me they can look like elephant man within minutes) soooo, called the vet and gave them the heads up we were coming in. Fortunately they were both in a hurry to gtf out so we basically ran the entire way back to the car without any problems. Got them to the vet where they got their steroid and benedryl (the real drug) injections. Poor kennedyy has a bunch of little nickle sized bumps on her, just have to wait for stingers to fall out. Miles got away much lighter thankfully so he isn't as upset right now.

wow hope they are ok

every year my dog pisses off a mosquito eater and he gets bit right above his eye and it swells up and looks like he got punched in the head and i have to give him a benedryl pill to take the swelling down

What's a "mosquito eater"? Some strange Alaskan creature?

My boxer I had years ago was aldo very allergic to bee stings. She would always seek them out, and I would have to make at least 2 trips to the vet for it every year. I loved that dog, but she wasnt the sharpest knife in the drawer.

that's a mosquito eater. bigger than a mosquito and meaner than one too. when they bite they leave welts instead of a little bump.

That looks like a Crane Fly. Crane Flies don't bite. Unless you have some wild mutant Crane Flies up there  (or I'm wrong and it's not a Crane Fly)

Wikipedia Link

Despite their common names, crane flies do not prey on mosquitoes as adults, nor do they bite humans. Some larval crane flies may on occasion feed on mosquito larvae.[1] Adult crane flies feed on nectar or they do not feed at all; most crane fly species live only to mate and die once they become adults

the ones we have up here bite, and they are freaking mean too

i got bit by one on my ankle a few summers ago, watched him like a moron too , and i ended up with a huge welt on my leg. usually if a mosquito bites you, you can pull the stinger out by making an X over the bite with your finger nail, but this sucker puffed up and itched like a mofo.

Well, you got me as to what it is then. Mind if I forward that pic to a friend of mine?

Cali Crane Flies don't bite either. I get 'em in my house all the time. I just grab 'em and escort them outside, never been bitten in dozens of such cases.
