Former NFL running back Travis Henry has reached a plea agreement in a federal drug case.
In court papers filed Tuesday, Henry's attorney, Harvey Steinberg of Denver, said his client and prosecutors had reached an agreement. However, the filing does not say what charges Henry intends to admit to.
U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull scheduled a change-of-plea hearing for April 16.
Henry, 30, and co-defendant James Mack, 29, were arrested in Sept. 30 in the Denver area.
They were charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute, two counts of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of cocaine.
Prosecutors allege the two had plotted to supply at least five kilograms of cocaine to customers in the Billings area. They were arrested in an undercover operation after a traffic stop in Montana led to the arrest of an associate.
Penalties for the charges are a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years to life in prison and a $4 million fine.
Mack, of Bow Mar, Colo., has pleaded not guilty and his trial is scheduled for April 27. The court has set an April 6 deadline to file any plea agreements.
Henry, of Frostproof, Fla., played one season with the Denver Broncos on a four-year, $22.5 million contract before he was released in June 2008.
He was with the Tennessee Titans in 2005-06 and had played the previous four seasons for the Buffalo Bills, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2002. Henry played his college football for Tennessee.
